Six School Sites Enter the Computer Age
Nate York arrived in Khartoum in May of 2006. With the help of local project managers Rania and Ahmed Eltom, 42 high-quality computers were purchased, and a technician contracted to complete on-site networking. Work began at the six schools, and negotiations began with local ministries for three technically proficient teachers to teach in and monitor the labs. Solace agreed to pay these teacher’s salaries for one year.
The renovations and computer installations were completed by the end of May. The labs currently provide computer training to roughly 1500 students. Rania and Ahmed Eltom have agreed to act as independent monitors for the long-term success of this project. |

Sudan Schools
Computers need a cool dust-free environment, and a stable power supply to operate efficiently. Every room Solace renovated or built in Sudan’s challenging climate would require dust-proof windows, ceiling fans, paint, new desks, and safe wiring.
