Indonesia
In June 2005, Solace staff traveled to Western Sumatra to build two schools in the tsunami-ravaged cities of Banda Aceh and Meulaboh. |
 |
Meulaboh, a remote coastal city located a few miles away from the earthquake's epicenter, had a population of approximately 120,000 before the tsunami. In the aftermath, most of the city and surrounding villages were destroyed. An estimated 40,000 residents died, and 50,000 more lost their homes.
Solace is employing an Indonesian project coordinator, Rayadin (Adin) Sinuraya, who is overseeing construction and adeptly navigated through numerous layers of the Indonesian government’s red tape. |
 |
He has also been in contact with separatist elements to negotiate for the safety of the schools Solace builds.
