Solace Cottage Industry: Nepal

Opening a boutique in Kathmandu

Initial Investment

Workflow chart

$67,000 is a one-time investment that provides the capital for a truly sustainable project.   The capital will open a retail boutique and workshop that will provide local artisans, some of them women that have been fortunate enough to escape the sex trade. More than 17,000 women and girls from Nepal become sex slaves every year. Many end up in India, China or other Southeast Asian countries, and roughly half of them are children.  The store will spin off $27,600 profits annually which will be used to reinvest into the Solace workshop, and the construction of a 3 classroom school per year. Nepal Workshop

The workshop provides a safe and clean work environment for Nepalese artisans. The artisans produce the goods for the retail boutique in Kathmandu and for Solace International fundraising efforts in the USA.  We have also connected some of the artisans with online retailers like Worldstock.com who will bring their goods to an international market.

Nepal Retail Store and Training Workshop

Project manager, Michelle Winston, has over a decade of experience working in Nepal designing and producing jewelry. Michelle is overseeing the day to day activities of the store along with the help of designer Tania Azizi.  The store and workshop are strategically located in the busiest shopping area for expatriates and tourists in the city, the Lazimpat district of Kathmandu.

Your Donation is Tax Deductible

Your tax-deductible contribution to Solace International is an investment in economic development, education, community health and construction in developing countries. In every project, we strive to find solutions that have a low-carbon impact and are sustainable. We are committed to getting your hard-earned dollars into the field for purchasing labor and materials for new construction and start-up businesses. Funds are used to pay salaries of local project managers and workers, to buy supplies locally, and for the transport of goods and equipment to job sites. By being small, flexible, and thrifty, Solace has done far more with less. Help us continue to set the bar higher for efficiency in international aid.
