Solace recognized in ceremony at vocational campus opening by President Sirleaf for completing Belle Yelle and several other nearby school constrution projects.
On December 26th, 2009, the President of Liberia officially opened the school at Dorothy Byrne Vocational School at Belle Yelle [link to project] in a ceremony full of color and life. Celebrating with President Sirleaf were the ambassadors to Liberia from the United States and People’s Republic of China. Solace International is proud to have been recognized by Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf President of the Republic of Liberia for the construction of a vocational school for agriculture on the site of the notorious Belle Yelle prison.
In 2008, President Sirleaf asked Solace in to oversee construction as a symbol of new beginnings for her country. Because of its remote location, the jail was used for holding political prisoners,
including the President herself. When Solace began construction, the site was a ten-hour hike from the nearest road.
Though a road to the area is nearing completion, the remaining distance from its furthest point to the campus is a two-hour hike. The President’s entourage, including the Ambassadors, covered the last of the travel on foot to make it to the celebration.
Solace is honored and humbled by the recognition offered from President Sirleaf. We would like to thank Helvin Moses Binda for receiving honors as a Solace representative from Her Excellency, and recognize his
tireless efforts and those of many others in completing this symbol of hope.
