Arts and Crafts Center

Several local artists approached Solace Project Director Marlo Shedlock with a business plan to profit from their work. Marlo worked to facilitate online art sales to Overstock.com and also helped artists set up their gallery.  The gallery has become a success story. 

Costs/Finances:

$1,100 initial loan to a group of 5 artists to pay for rent and materials in starting an art studio and gallery.

Current state:

    • Initial loan was repaid within 6 months

    • Profits from sales of art exceed $3,500 a year

Projected benefits:

    • Provides a showcase for local art in Mangochi

    • Currently supports the work of 6 artists and their families

Labor:

Artists work full-time in their respective studios, and rotate as sales representatives at the gallery
